Enhanced Fe(III)/Fe(II) Redox Cycle for Persulfate Activation by Reducing Sulfur Species

نویسندگان

چکیده

The activation of persulfate (PS) by Fe(III) for the removal environmental organic pollutants was severely limited low reduction rate from to Fe(II). In present study, we reported that reducing sulfur species (i.e., SO32−, HSO3−, S2−, and HS−) under concentration could significantly accelerate Fe(III)/Fe(II) cycle in Fe(III)/PS system. Under condition 1.0 mM 4.0 PS, performance system poor, only 21.6% BPA removed within 40 min. However, degradation efficiency increased 66.0%, 65.5%, 72.9% 82.7% with addition HS−, respectively. highly dependent on solution pH species. When reductant excessive, would be inhibited due elimination reactive This study provided some valuable insights treatment wastewater containing these inorganic ions.

Redox signaling regulated by electrophiles and reactive sulfur species

Redox signaling is a key modulator of oxidative stress induced by nonspecific insults of biological molecules generated by reactive oxygen species. Current redox biology is revisiting the traditional concept of oxidative stress, such that toxic effects of reactive oxygen species are protected by diverse antioxidant systems upregulated by oxidative stress responses that are physiologically media...

Persulfate Activation by Major Soil Minerals

by MUSHTAQUE AHMAD, M.S. Washington State University December 2008 Chair: Richard J. Watts Oxidant interaction with subsurface materials is a major factor influencing the effective application of in situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) for contaminant destruction. The newest and least explored ISCO oxidant source is persulfate. Persulfate interaction with subsurface minerals was investigated as a bas...

Sulfur species as redox partners and electron shuttles for ferrihydrite reduction by Sulfurospirillum deleyianum.

Iron(III) (oxyhydr)oxides can represent the dominant microbial electron acceptors under anoxic conditions in many aquatic environments, which makes understanding the mechanisms and processes regulating their dissolution and transformation particularly important. In a previous laboratory-based study, it has been shown that 0.05 mM thiosulfate can reduce 6 mM ferrihydrite indirectly via enzymatic...

Linked redox precipitation of sulfur and selenium under anaerobic conditions by sulfate-reducing bacterial biofilms.

A biofilm-forming strain of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB), isolated from a naturally occurring mixed biofilm and identified by 16S rDNA analysis as a strain of Desulfomicrobium norvegicum, rapidly removed 200 micro M selenite from solution during growth on lactate and sulfate. Elemental selenium and elemental sulfur were precipitated outside SRB cells. Precipitation occurred by an abiotic rea...

Sulfur Species in Particulates Emitted from Reducing Coal Combustion and Pyrometallurgical Furnaces

The method of X-Ray Photo-electron Spectroscopy is used to determine the chemical state of the sulfur species present in fly-ash samples produced by burning a number of pulverized coal samples under reducing conditions in a continuous combustion furnace. The influence of submicron metallic constituents present in the flue-gases of the pyrometallurical systems on the state of the sulfur species ...
